Tenzing Norgay Sherpa
Everest Summiteer (1953)
When Hillary and I stood on the summit of Sagarmatha in 1953, the world saw a single triumphant moment - but the mountain was climbed one careful, patient step at a time. Education is no different. A child does not become wise in a day; she rises slowly, lesson by lesson, with a teacher's hand to steady her over every difficult ridge. I am proud that a school carrying the name of our greatest mountain, Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya, teaches its students that same spirit - to aim high, to prepare well, and never to fear the climb. The peak belongs to those who keep walking.

First Nepali Woman to Summit Everest
For too long our daughters were told that certain heights were not meant for them. I refused to believe it, and in 1993 I stood atop Sagarmatha to prove that a Nepali woman can reach any summit she chooses. The same must be true in every classroom. When a school like Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya gives its girls the same books, the same encouragement, and the same dreams as its boys, it raises a generation that knows no ceiling. Educate a daughter, and you do not lift one child - you lift an entire household and the nation with it.

I have always believed that the human mind, once awakened, is more vast than any sky. A true education does not merely fill a child with facts; it sets the imagination alight and teaches the heart to feel deeply. I am glad that Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya nurtures not only sharp intellects but tender, dreaming souls. Let these students read, question, and wonder - for from such wondering minds come the poets, thinkers, and builders of tomorrow's Nepal.

In my time I gave our people the gift of learning in their own tongue, for I knew that knowledge must first touch the heart in a language it understands. Education is the foundation on which a civilised society is built. A residential school such as Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya, where children live, study, and grow together in discipline, plants that foundation deep. May its students honour their mother tongue, respect their teachers, and carry learning to every corner of the land.

I have spent my life rescuing and raising children the world had forgotten, and one truth has guided me always: a child who is protected, loved, and educated can overcome any darkness. A residential school carries a sacred duty, for it becomes a second home and its teachers a second family. I am deeply moved that Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya watches over its students with such care - feeding not only their minds but their dignity and their hope. Keep every child safe, keep every child learning, and you will raise human beings who heal this nation.

World Record Everest Summiteer
People ask how I have stood atop Sagarmatha more times than anyone alive. The answer is simple: respect the mountain, train with discipline, and never stop learning from each climb. A good education works the very same way. The students of Sagarmatha Awasiya Mahabidhyalaya are learning that success is not luck but preparation - that every small lesson today is one more step toward a summit they cannot yet see. Study with patience and courage, and one day you too will look down from heights you once only dreamed of.
